When I first began treating clinically, I was on a fairly conventional therapeutic career path, using traditional orthopedic assessment and treatment techniques, a natural extension of my background as an athlete, having run a marathon and played field hockey. A number of years ago I realized that these techniques were only helping my patient so much. I decided to enhance my therapy skills and understanding of the human body by enrolling at the Canadian school of osteopathy in 2010. Osteopathy is a therapeutic practice that is based upon the premise that manipulation of the muscles and bones encourages self-regulation within the body to restore function reduced pain and improved imbalances.

Through my education and experience, I have enjoyed and welcomed the opportunity to continue to learn and improve my skills. I appreciate the interrelationship between structure and function of the human body and recognize the body’s ability to heal itself, and my role to help facilitate that process. I feel passionate about helping people optimize their health and improve their quality of life.

I was first introduced to osteopathy when my mother booked an appointment for me when I was a teenager back in Quebec. I was amazed how quickly the therapist found the main areas of restriction on my body and this, with the lightest touch. Osteopathy really intrigued me. Having performed as a snowboard athlete and worked as a snowboard coach for many years, I had multiple injuries and concussions, which I found improved the most when addressed with the holistic approach of osteopathy. My own healing adventure left me with a deep sense of body awareness that prepared me for the work of an osteopathic practitioner. Since then, I have graduated from the Canadian School of Osteopathy in 2016 and continued my journey, this time as the therapist. I have since founded and worked at Revelstoke Osteopathy & Wellness in Revelstoke were I was privileged to help people from various background and especially, but not restricted to, expecting mothers, babies and children. I am passionate about helping people from all ages achieving and expressing their body’s outmost potential, which in turn increases their quality of life and the ones of others around them.

Welcome!

Amandas Journey: Amandas journey into the world of osteopathic manual therapy began not in a classroom, but as a patient searching for answers. For years she battled severe, chronic pain that completely disrupted her life. She tried common forms of therapy and consulted numerous doctors, but was continually met with temporary relief or no answers at all. Everything changed when she crossed paths with an osteopathic manual therapist. By looking at my body as a whole, they helped her achieve the lasting results and relief she thought was impossible. This transformative experience sparked a deep passion within her to understand the human body and provide that same profound relief to others.

Amanda’s Philosophy & Training: Amanda graduated from the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy with a Master in Practice Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Sciences (M.OMSc.) and am a member of Osteopathy Canada (OSTCAN). Her training consisted of an intensive 4.5-year educational program within the specialty of Osteopathic Manual Therapy. As a member of OSTCAN, her treatments are covered by most major third-party health insurance providers.

Amanda’s Approach: Amanda approaches osteopathy through a deeply classical lens, rooted in a thorough understanding of anatomy and the profound interconnectedness of the human body. She do not believe in simply chasing symptoms; instead, she always strives to find the root cause of patient’s discomfort. Her clinical approach is guided by the core principles of structure-function relationships and a firm mechanical basis. She views symptomology not as a problem to be covered up, but as the body’s way of communicating. By listening to that communication and restoring mechanical balance, she allows the body’s natural healing mechanisms to take over.

Amandas Qualifications as a practitioner:

  • A Master in Practice of Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences (M.OMSc) Diploma.

  • A certified member of OSTCAN (Osteopathy Canada), a prestigious association that holds its members to high standards requiring its Osteopathic manual therapists to have a minimum of 4200 hours of osteopathic specific education, and 1500 hours of supervised osteopathic clinical experience upon graduation. This ensures an excellent standard of professionalism and care for public patients.

  • Past experience in medically related fields such as dental.

  • Experience with seniors.
